Grace O’Malley M.Sc, PT is a paediatric physiotherapist working at Temple Street Children's University Hospital.


She specializes in the assessment and evidence-based management of children and adolescents who are obese and coordinates the Temple Street W82GO Healthy Lifestyles Programme. She is a HRB Clinical PhD Fellow and Student of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College Cork and her research interests include the pathophysiology of Type 2 Diabetes in youth; the co-morbidities of obesity and the use of remote technologies and telemedicine in obesity management. Grace is the Chair of the Association for the study of Obesity on the Island of Ireland (www.asoi.info) and a Board member of the European Childhood Obesity Group.

Éva Erhardt MD, PhD

Éva Erhardt was born and educated in Pécs, studied Medicine at the University of Pécs. After her graduation she was trained in Paediatrics and then Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology. Since 2009 she is the Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetology at the Department of Paediatrics, University of Pécs. Throughout her career, she has been highly involved not only in clinics, but also in research mainly focusing on genetic background and consequences of childhood obesity, such as impaired glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance. One book chapter, twenty-two original papers and number of abstracts, which can be cited, have been published (impact factor: 78,44, citations: 192). She is a member in several national and international societies, she takes part in the work of European Childhood Obesity Group (ECOG) since 1993. She was the Vice-President of ECOG between 2010-2013, now she is also a Board Member as Scientific Advisor. She is the President of Endocrine Working Group of Hungarian Paediatric Society since 2012.

Paulina Nowicka  Paulina Nowicka, BSc Clinical Nutrition, MSc Psychology, PhD Medical Sciences, is an Assistant Professor on a 3-year grant from Vinnova Marie Curie International Qualification. In her work between Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and, University of Oxford, UK, she is seeking to identify the most important familial and sociocultural drivers of obesity early in life, and to investigate how lifestyle patterns develop across generations, with a specific focus on immigrant families. Her research is inspired by experiences from the Childhood Obesity Unit in Malmö, Sweden, where she worked for almost a decade as a clinician using a treatment approach based on family therapy. Her postdoctoral education has included research at Yale University and University of Oregon. In Karolinska Institute she is a Principal Investigator on a randomized controlled trial, the More & Less Study, aiming to test different treatment options for preschoolers with obesity. She is a member of the childhood obesity taskforce of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the scientific secretary for the Swedish Association for the Study of Obesity (SFO).

Maria Hassapidou Maria Hassapidou is Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and Head of the School of Food Technology and Nutrition of the Alexander Technological Educational Institution of Thessaloniki (ATEI), Greece. She is also Director of the Human Nutrition Laboratory and member of the research committee of the same institution. She has coordinated and/or participated in several research projects funded by the E.U. (Europe against cancer, Health, Diets I and II, Healthgrain, Eurreca), the research committee of ATEI, the Greek Ministries of Health, Education, Research and Technology, and food or pharmaceutical companies in the areas of dietary assessment and nutritional evaluation, experimental nutrition, dietary treatment of obese patients and childhood obesity. She is also member of several other national and European associations, societies and committees and member of scientific committees of European research projects.

She has been author of several books and has published more than 100 scientific papers (referred papers in journals and conference proceedings) in the areas of nutrition and obesity. She is also a reviewer in many related European and International journals

Prof. Claudio Maffeis was born on April 7, 1960 in Verona (Italy) where he lives. He graduated in Medicine in 1985, at the University of Verona where he post graduated in Paediatrics (1989) and in Gastroenterology (1999).

Postdoctoral training: Institute of Paediatrics, University of Verona, Institute of Physiology, University of Lausanne (CH), Department of Paediatrics, Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit, Tufts University, Boston MA (USA).

Clinical and academicals career at the Institute of Paediatrics, University of Verona: Assistant Professor (1989), Consultant (1994) and Associate Professor of Paediatrics (2004).

He chairs the Unit of Clinical Nutrition and Obesity, of the Regional Centre for Juvenile Diabetes, University of Verona.

Vice-President of the European Childhood Obesity Group. Chair of the Childhood Obesity Research Group of the Italian Society of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology. Advisor of the Italian Society of Obesity.

Paediatrician since 1986 (graduated in 1982), Full Researcher and Aggregate Professor at the Dept. of Paediatrics and Paediatric Neuropsychiatry of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine of “Sapienza” Rome University.

Author or co-author of almost 400 items including published papers and lectures, over 150 of which are of international relevance, and about 90 of which are books’ chapters / Congress Proceedings. The up-to-dated IF is around 200.

At clinical level, Responsible for the Centre for Paediatric Nutrition and Dietetics in the same Dept. Main teaching activity at the Graduation Course “E” of “Sapienza” Rome University (located in its South-Latium Branch), with the charge of coordinating and teaching in the Paediatric Course; besides, he also teaches in the Nursing Medical School and in the Dietetics Medical School.

Teacher also at the Post-Graduation Schools in Paediatrics and in Nutritional Sciences.

Past Vice-Head of the Paediatric Nursing Medical School, where he was also teacher of the Paediatric Course.
